What he means is that by being kind, you are trying to spare their feelings. Giving them what they think they need (kindness) instead of what they actually need, is is cruel to them.

As for the scarcity comment, if you let a women act up to avoid making her angry/upset, it shows that you are afraid of losing her which is classic scarcity mentality.

Women and children are interchangeable in most regards. If your 8-year-old daughter mouthed off to you, would you ignore it? Of course not, you would respond in a way that makes it clear what she did is not acceptable (grounding, spanking, whatever your preferred punishment is). The child may be angry, but by correcting her actions you are doing what is best for her. Ignoring it to avoid upsetting her (being “kind”) is being cruel in the long run (she never learns how to act properly). On the other hand, sometimes being cruel IS being kind. Take away something your GF wants (to be around you) when she acts up is cruel (in her eyes), but in the long term it retrains her to act like a proper woman (which is being kind to her).

Big picture, the heroes are the ones who don’t give a fuck about kind or cruel. They do what is best, not what is kind.
